The Enis Furley Foundation has created a community outreach program called “Hot Corner Kids”. The program is aimed at impacting distressed families throughout involved cities in the Midwest . We have tried to create a unique and exciting experience for each selected family by relying on strong relationships between sports teams, area children's hospitals, and target organizations. We have established programs with the St. Louis Cardinals, the Indiana Pacers, the University of Louisville Cardinals , and the Evansville Otters … with more organizations on the way! Participants in our “Hot Corner Kids” program may have some of the following experiences:

  • Scott Rolen's special guest for batting practice
  • Clubhouse tours and dugout views
  • Special seats for Cardinals games
  • Scoreboard recognition
  • Team surprise gift packages
  • Families chaperoned by U of L baseball players
  • Run the bases after a game
  • Bat boy/girl for a day
  • Special seating at football, baseball, volleyball, and women's and men's basketball games

May, 2006:
Grant Gardner is from Newburgh , IN and part of the Hot Corner Kids program.  He has been fighting leukemia since January 2006. Grant and his family were guests for batting practice in May when the Cardinals played the Houston Astros.  Grant met Chris Burke of the Astros in Louisville after one of his treatments before the season started.  We set up the Memorial Day game trip so he could visit with Chris again as well as with Scott, Albert, and many of the other Cardinals and Astros.  His family was able to attend a game in St. Louis again in September.  Grant is in remission and doing well on his maintenance chemotherapy routine.  He is a very special young man. Please click here to see pictures from Grant's visit to St. Louis.

August, 2006:
Ten children and their parents were Scott's special guests at a Cardinals/Brewers game. The children are all patients at St. Mary's Hospital for Women and Children in Evansville, IN. The children and their parents were treated to a limousine ride from the hospital in Evansville to the game in St. Louis. Each child received a duffel bag of goodies, batting practice before the game, $50 worth of Cardinal Bucks to spend in the stadium and a special dugout visit with Scott. Pictures are available from this great night.

July, 2006:
The Hot Corner Kids program hosted a group of Little League baseball players from Carmel, IN. A father of one of the boys bid on this batting practice package on the Bob and Tom Hurricane Katrina Relief Auction. Rather than take the batting practice himself, he sent his son and teammates onto the field. Click here to view pictures from the day.

September, 2005:
Ten children from the pediatric wing of St. Mary's Hospital for Women and Children and thier parents visited St. Louis Cardinals' Busch Stadium as guests of Scott Rolen. To view pictures from this event, please click here.

“Hot Corner Kids” experiences are generally determined by the geographical location of the family and the event. Many of the families that participate in our “Hot Corner Kids” program will also be attending Camp Emma Lou.
